Pantone 2019 Colour of the Year: Living Coral

Announcing the 2019 Colour of the Year from Pantone is ‘Living Coral 16-1546’ – Living Coral is a brighter pink than the ubiquitous ‘Millennial pink’ yet it’s still a soft pink but just with a little more bite.

Pantone, the world’s commonly appointed guardians of colour, have once again announced their ‘Colour of the Year’ and this year we are sticking with pink but going brighter.

Pantone, in their typically understated vocabulary, announced that Living Coral, the 2019 Colour of the Year is “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge”. I mean, with a description like that, what’s not to like?

Don’t get us wrong. Copse Magazine *love* the annual Pantone Colour of the Year announcement – it helps us to check our own magazine colour palette for the year, it helps us to sense-check our own editorial trends against a global benchmark, and it gives us writers a whole new slew of stuff to write about! But we do get amused by the pseudo-passionate ramblings.

Pantone announced the 2019 Colour of the Year with some enthusiastic terms: “Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

“In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.”

“Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a nurturing colour that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.”
